AZAOS announces new Director – Cheri Wasiel

Cheir WasielDear AZAOS Family & Friends,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself, Cheri Wasiel to you as the new director of Arizona
Academy of Science. I look forward to working with our students, their families and our
community to continue to build on the tradition of excellence at AZAOS.  Arizona
Academy of Science strives to be an inclusive community that provides positive learning
experiences for our students and engages families in their educational journey. We have
assembled a tremendous staff that is dedicated to the success of our students both in
their academic development as well as their personal growth. These are the traits that focus on our mission. The Arizona Academy of Science, through combined effort of staff, parents, students, and the community, offers a rigorous and enticing program of study that inspires continuous learning.  We are committed to providing inquiry based and hands-on learning projects using science that fosters students to be innovative and imaginative in developing into perseverant, versatile, and solution seeking learners.

It is an honor to be chosen as Arizona Academy of Science Director.  I have been in
education for over 25 years as a classroom teacher and administrator. I began my
teaching and administrative career at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit, Michigan.  I
transferred to Phoenix in 2010 and continued my journey at Liberty Arts Academy.  This
will be my 15th year in administration and I am very excited to be at Arizona Academy
of Science.

I have a wonderful family including my two beautiful children; Jose (9) and Genesis (7)
and our pig Wilbur. They are the light of my life and I come to work each day advocating
for the children I serve as if they were my own.

Our priority is your child and we look forward to working with you to build a partnership
that allows your child to grow and an environment that is positive, supportive,
challenging and engaging.

As we embark on a new year we encourage our families to be involved in all that we do
at the Arizona Academy of Science.  We are looking forward to a strong PTO that is
seeking your assistance and welcome classroom volunteers among many aspects in our
school. No amount of time is too small to give and your contributions make a great
impact on what we do.

I am eager to get to know all our families and would be happy to sit down with you
anytime to discuss your child’s needs. Thank you for choosing Arizona Academy of
Science and sharing your children with us.

Sincerely,
Cheri Wasiel
